The Philadelphia Eagles acquired quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick to add depth behind starting quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Dalton, born October 29, 1987, spent the 2024 season with the Panthers, starting five games and recording a 1-4 mark after Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, was benched early under first-year head coach Dave Canales.[1][2]
Prior to Carolina, Dalton started nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019, compiling a 70-61-2 regular-season record as a starter and making four consecutive playoff appearances from 2011 to 2014, though without a postseason win.[3]
After the Bengals selected Joe Burrow No. 1 overall in 2020, Dalton was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he went 3-1 in four starts that year. He then joined the Chicago Bears in 2021, starting six games with a 1-5 record, before signing with the New Orleans Saints in 2022 and going 2-5 in seven starts.[3]
The Eagles' current quarterback room includes Hurts, Kenny Pickett - acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers on March 16, 2025, in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick - and Tanner McKee, who served as Hurts' primary backup during the 2024 preseason.[4][5]
The trade provides veteran competition ahead of training camp.
