Aiyuk Taunts Daniels on Social Media as 49ers Trade Saga Deepens
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk publicly mocked Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels in a series of social media posts on Saturday, complicating what had appeared to be a mutual interest in a trade between the two clubs. Aiyuk referenced Daniels by his jersey number, "5," in video and text posts that swung between confrontational and conciliatory within the same session.
In one video, Aiyuk quoted Daniels as sending him a message about team rules and responded directly: "Boy, I'm a grown a-- man, boy. You gonna have to start running behind your momma and I might believe what you talking about." He tagged Daniels in a separate written post using crude but playful language, before appearing to reverse course in a third post that read, "Let's run it 5! Let's see! Need you available all szn and I'll do the same." The sequence underscored the erratic nature of a public dispute that has dragged on for months. Aiyuk and Daniels were teammates at Arizona State, and Aiyuk had previously invoked the Commanders multiple times in apparent attempts to engineer a move to Washington. biathlon online betting
The posts are the latest chapter in a prolonged falling-out between Aiyuk and the 49ers. The team voided the remaining guaranteed money on his four-year, $120 million extension, signed in August 2024, after Aiyuk did not participate in rehabilitation sessions for a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee - injuries sustained during the 2024 season. San Francisco placed him on the reserve/left team list in December after he stopped reporting to the facility. Earlier this month, Aiyuk had already escalated the conflict publicly, calling the organization "dumb" and "stupid" for giving him his extension and claiming the team feared releasing him because of what he might accomplish elsewhere. General manager John Lynch has since stated that Aiyuk is finished with the club. Before his injury in 2024, Aiyuk had recorded 24 catches for 374 yards. His previous full season, in 2023, produced 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns as the 49ers reached the Super Bowl.
With Lynch having publicly closed the door and Aiyuk's social media conduct drawing continued scrutiny, the prospect of any trade - to Washington or elsewhere - faces significant obstacles. No deal has been reported, and the 49ers have not indicated they have found a willing trade partner. Aiyuk remains under contract but off the active roster, leaving his immediate future unresolved.
